It has become customary for people to write about China visit. I don’t think I’ll add anymore value that what others have written. So I’m focusing on things that happened during the travel.
The marching wagon:
On my way to China, as I was sitting in the bus to get to the international terminal I heard a big marching sound. As the sound got closer, I realized it was one of those carts they use to move baggage. Looks like one of the wheels was damaged and making a huge noise. There’s nothing interesting.
It became interesting on my way back. I heard the same noise, probably from the same cart. It’s been four days since I myself noticed the noise. Why hasn’t it occurred to any of the airport officials to fix it? Speaks volume about our work culture. I see this in many places. People don’t take pride in what they do. Half baked job has become our national work culture.
Customer Experience:
One of the boards in Mumbai airport read “We limit announcements to improve the customer experience”. Really!!! Which customer did you ask before assuming this will improve the experience? Instead of focusing on the real issues that affect the custome,r someone took the time to think about this. No wonder the airport stinks and wagons march with a thud.
Self Service Kiosks:
Any boarding pass that you get from the self checking kiosks must be endorsed with a seal from the airline staff. To do that, you have to wait in the same line where others wait with their 2 ton check in luggage. I though the purposes of self check- in is to avoid waiting time for passengers without check in luggage. I can guess what might have happened. It’s a diktat from the airport authorities because some small issue happened. Looks like our infamous red tape has kicked in again. We do that in companies too. A small problem occurs and you bring in hordes of Quality Inspectors to check everything. I think we have become a culture that loves checking everything. Maybe a vestige of colonial rule.
