Ezhil turned around the manufacturing side in the next two years. He then moved on to a bigger company. Kayal just remained as his password for e-mail accounts. The new company realized his potential and started grooming him for the Vice President of Manufacturing. That’s when the news hit him – Kayal is still not married.
“Are you there?” the message popped up from his instant messenger. It‘s his friend
“Yeah… but in a meeting” Ezhil replied back acting as if he is looking for some data.
“Kayal is still not married. Call me after your meeting. Talk to you later. ”
It took a minute for that to sink in
“One of our Policy Deployment objectives this year is to reduce our inventory by 50%” VP of Manufacturing started the meeting.
“Policy Deployment or Hoshin Kanri is a strategy planning tool that gives us focus on shared goals. It involves all leaders in planning to achieve the goal. That’s why we are here” Ezhil sub vocalized as the VP said the same thing.
He has been in one of these PD meetings hundred times before. Even though he liked sitting in these meetings to develop strategies, that day his mind was eleven time zones away—in India.
The next hour in the meeting seemed like eons.
“Are you sure that she is not married” Ezhil closed his office door as he talked to Ravi on the phone.
“I’m sure. My fiancée told me. They are friends but I didn’t tell her your story”
“Looks like, she did her MBA from ISB and is with TCS now.”
Ezhil knew what was coming. “So what! ”
“Dude, don’t get wind up over this. Do what you got to do.”
“Alright man, it’s time for me to call my fiancée. I’ll get you more details later on. Good luck”
“Oh! By the way. She is on my fiancée’s friends list in Orkut. Check it out”
Ezhil never was fan of social networking sites. He never could understand how someone could have 300 friends. Can they even remember all the names?
His list never went over 30. That too, out of peer pressure.
About me: The more you know , the more you realize that you don’t know about me.
“Typical of you Kayal” thought Ezhil. He spent the next couple of hours just looking at the profile until a feeling of guilt hit him. He called Ravi later that night. “I have decided man. I’m going to India”
